Dark Squares — Privacy Policy
Effective: July 2026 · Contact: vigdora100@gmail.com
Dark Squares ("the app") is a chess game with weapons, developed by Avi Kremer.
This policy explains what data the app handles and why. The short version:
we collect the minimum needed to run online play, we don't run ads, we don't
use analytics trackers, and we never sell your data.
What we collect
- An anonymous account ID. When you first open the app, an anonymous
account is created automatically (via Firebase Authentication). It is a random
identifier — no name, email, or phone number is required to play.
- Optional Apple sign-in. If you choose to link your Apple ID (to keep
your progress across devices), Apple provides us a private identifier and — depending
on your Apple settings — a name and/or (possibly relay) email address. We use these
only to link your account.
- Game data. Your banner name (a pseudonym you can change), match
history and moves, results, experience points (XP), unlocked weapons and loadouts,
ratings, friend connections, and challenges.
- Presence. If you keep "Show me in the players list" enabled, your
banner name and an approximate last-active time appear to other players so they can
find and befriend you. You can turn this off in your Profile at any time.
- Push notification token. Only if you grant notification permission —
used to notify you about friend requests, challenges, and moves in your games.
What we do NOT collect
- No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, no third-party analytics or trackers.
- No location data, no contacts, no photos, no microphone.
- No payment details (the app currently has no purchases).
Where your data lives
Data is stored in Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Messaging),
acting as our data processor, on Google Cloud infrastructure. Traffic between the app and
these services is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS).
Who can see what
Other players can see your banner name, your presence (if enabled), and the moves of
games you play with them. Nobody — including other players — sees any real-world identity
data through the app.
Data retention & deletion
Game data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time
inside the app: Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes
your profile, XP and unlocks, friend connections, presence, and banner name. You can also
email vigdora100@gmail.com (include your banner
name) and we will remove the account and associated data within 30 days.
Children
Dark Squares is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect
personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and note the new effective
date above.
